Plush toys are among children's favourite toys, but they also attract dust and bacteria. If you want to keep them clean and soft again, you need to wash them properly.
How to Wash Plush Toys
- Check the Label: Not every toy can survive the washing machine. If it has batteries, mechanisms, or is made of special material, it's better to go for hand cleaning.
- Hand Washing: Fill a basin with lukewarm water (up to 30 °C) and add a mild detergent. Submerge the toy and gently squeeze it—avoid scrubbing too hard. After 10 minutes, rinse it with clean water and gently press out excess water using a towel.
- Washing in the Washing Machine: Place the toy in a laundry bag or pillowcase. Wash on a gentle cycle (max. 30 °C, low spin). It's best to skip fabric softener, as it could damage the fabric.
- Air Drying: Do not hang the toy by its ears or put it in the dryer. Lay it on a dry towel and let it air dry naturally.
How Often Should You Wash Plush Toys?
It is recommended to wash them at least once every 1-2 months, and more frequently for children with allergies or when the child is sick.
