How to Wash Pillows?

Washing pillows in a washing machine

Washing pillows is important for maintaining their cleanliness and hygiene. However, each type of pillow requires specific care to avoid damage.

How to Wash a Memory Foam Pillow?

Memory foam pillows should not be washed in a washing machine. It is best to clean them by hand. Gently wash them in cold water using a mild detergent. Avoid vigorous twisting and wringing. After washing, allow the pillow to air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight or heat, to preserve its shape.

How to Wash a Down Pillow?

You can wash down pillows in the washing machine. Use a mild detergent suitable for down (fluff), and select a gentle wash cycle at a temperature of 30 to 40 °C. The pillows need enough space in the washing machine to allow the material to spread out and avoid damage. You can help by adding two (tennis) balls. After washing, thoroughly dry the pillow in the dryer at 30 °C, again with the balls, to evenly distribute the down and restore the pillow’s volume. Drying only on a drying rack or in any other way besides using a dryer is not recommended.

If you don’t have a sufficiently large washing machine and dryer, leave the washing of the down pillow to the laundry room.

Tips for Washing Pillows:

  1. Before washing, check the care labels for recommendations.
  2. Regularly air out the pillows and shake them if needed to remove dust and debris.
  3. Don’t wash the pillows too often to prolong their lifespan, but keep them clean as needed.
  4. Use gentle programs for drying pillows and rotate them regularly to ensure they dry evenly.
