Alpaca sweater

Alpaca fabric is a luxurious, natural material known for its softness, lightness, and excellent insulating properties.

To maintain the quality and characteristics of clothing made from this special wool, proper care is essential. Incorrect washing can cause shrinkage, fibre damage, or loss of softness.

How to Wash Alpaca Clothing

Check the Label

The care label provides essential information: whether hand washing, machine washing, or dry cleaning is recommended. Never take risks—always check the label before washing alpaca fabric.

Hand Washing

  1. Fill a basin with lukewarm water (neither hot nor cold—just comfortably warm to the touch).
  2. Add a special wool detergent, preferably one with lanolin.
  3. Gently submerge the clothing and carefully clean it.
  4. After thoroughly rinsing, gently press out excess water. Avoid twisting or wringing—this will help keep the fibres strong and smooth.

Machine Washing

  1. If the label allows it, use a wool program with a low temperature (max. 30°C) and minimal spin speed (ideally below 400 RPM).
  2. Place the clothing in a protective laundry bag.
  3. Use only mild detergents designed for natural fibers.

Tips for Caring for Alpaca Clothing

  • Never dry alpaca clothing in a dryer or under direct sunlight. Dry it flat on a towel in the shade to preserve its shape and structure.
  • Store alpaca clothing folded, not on hangers, to prevent stretching.
  • Keep it in a dry place, ideally in a breathable cover.
  • Use natural repellents like lavender or cedar wood to protect the material from moths.

With proper care, your alpaca clothing will last for years and maintain its unique softness and quality.
