Washing a cap properly is important to avoid damaging it and to maintain its shape. Read on to learn how to gently and effectively wash a cap so it looks like new again.
Check the Label on the Cap
Before tossing your cap into the washing machine, always read the manufacturer's care instructions on the label. Some caps may be suitable for hand washing only or require special care.
Clean the Cap
Before washing, remove visible dirt and dust using a soft brush or cloth. If there are dried stains on the cap, gently treat them with soap or a stain remover before washing.
Hand Washing
This is the safest method. Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add a small amount of quality laundry gel. Gently submerge the cap in the water and use a soft brush or sponge to clean it carefully.
Machine Washing
If the cap is machine washable, place it in a special protective bag before putting it in the washing machine to minimize potential damage. Set the machine to a gentle cycle with a low temperature (maximum 30°C) and use a quality laundry gel.
Drying
Never dry your cap in a dryer, as high heat can damage its shape and material. Let it air dry naturally. To maintain its shape, place it over an object (such as a bowl or a glass) that matches the size of the cap’s interior.
